Review:

The Three Musketeers 3D is just another of the numerous remakes of the classic. But because of the new technology that this age brings us, this time, we get to see it in 3D. Similar to the several other adaptations of The Three Musketeers, this new take still shows D’Artagnan as the young man who desires to be anointed as a Musketeer, and his dream is to protect the King of France. Of course after that he crosses paths with the three renowned musketeers, Porthos, Athos, and Aramis, then becomes friends with the three. As he tags along with them to help them save the throne of France, D’Artagnan falls in love, but becomes the best of all the musketeers.

The director of this film is Paul W.S. Anderson, who will also be responsible for the latest Milla Jovovich movie, Resident Evil 5. Since RE5 is to be released soon as well, then the director must be fantastic. Just as it is difficult to make a regular film, then a 3D film is much harder to accomplish. So if you can make and release two 3D films in a year, then that must be an achievement.

What’s also good to know about the movie is that the original writer of this story, Alexandre Dumas, wrote a ton of works and 156 films have been based on his writings. So no matter how many remakes The Three Musketeers goes through, it is a timeless favorite. Another famous work of his that has been a hit in the theaters is the Count of Monte Cristo, starring Jim Caviezel.

Review:

Seriously, what’s with Johnny Depp, the Caribbean, and rum? Perhaps we will never know, but his latest movie The Rum Diary has proven that the three of them mix together in a good way. The Rum Diary of course stars Johnny Depp as Paul Kemp, a freelance reporter who decides to leave his fast-paced lifestyle to sail the seas and settle on an island in Puerto Rico.

He chances upon a very crucial point in his life when he got a gig on writing for a nearly forgotten newspaper in the charming Caribbean. Paul is now forced to do good on a lot of different levels because he has to have a more secure post as his current status leans more likely to not having a job at all.

The production of this movie was originally set to start way back in 2004 but apparently it was not revealed why the release of the movie and the making of this film were moved years after. Like most films these days, The Rum Diary is also based on a famous novel. Another good thing about this movie is that it does not only cast Johnny Depp and expect him to single-handedly pull off the show (even if he can) but they also got Aaron Eckhart, who is a good supporting actor.

With Johnny Depp leading the way, there is no doubt that this movie will be seen by people everywhere. Sometimes people don’t even have to find out what the storyline is, as long as they see Johnny Depp’s name on the poster.

Review:

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn is a tale of adventure. It’s about a young reporter who follows potential stories wherever it may lead him. His passion about this job is so strong that he tails the stories even if it will lead him to earth’s boundaries.

Tintin is derived from a popular Belgian cartoon character, and has been renowned for many years. He also has Snowy, a white dog, and they encounter a mad scientist, a lunatic pirate captain and twins. What a horrifying thought.

This film is the first of a potential and planned trilogy. Icon Steven Spielberg will direct this first one and the succeeding film is planned to be directed by its co-producer, which is Lord of the Rings genius Peter Jackson. And because of the technology that James Cameron has brought to us through Avatar, The Secret of the Unicorn will also use the same motion capture technology. This 3D will be so good so we can expect the most stunning visuals that was ever used in a children’s movie. Though there is no word yet who the third film’s director will be, the filmmakers should be careful to choose because that person will have to live up to a Spielberg and a Jackson.

This project seems like it is a film that will feed the souls of Jackson and Spielberg first before they consider their pockets. While it also looks like it is a project for a living, their new technology is something to play with.

Review:

It’s the kind of a proudly preposterous B-movie that is just at range in the grounds of summertime, when we already have low expectations, and almost everybody has already had their satisfaction of awesome blockbusters and the severe films of the fall is waiting to be shown in theaters. Not that there is anything haywire with that. The movie Shark Night is not as painful, and it’s dumb fun, but unfortunately without the simpering self-awareness that other films have.

There are times that the film’s refusal to blink is absolutely impressive. See the minute Malik stumbles, red-eyed and bruised, to the body of water to take revenge on the demise of someone loved by him. The fierce sharks got one of those people, and he wants to do that same thing to the sharks. He announces with a tremulous profundity of feelings that would do Stanislavsky proud. Joining Malik are hunky nerd Nick, hot chick Beth, jackass Gordon, cutie boy Dennis, and Latina personality Maya. The lake home, which is placed on an island so distant for mobile phone signal, dwells on oracular Sara, who comes to formulate reasons for not being able to come home the former three years.

Stay put for the unanticipated post-credits scene in which the cast executes a hip-hop song that’s kinda awful, but Walls does make do a few amusing stylings when it was his turn to belt out at the mic.

Movie Release Date: August 19, 2011

Review:

Robert Rodriguez’s spy franchise goes on ever forward, just as original spy kids Juni and Carmen Cortez have grown big and branched out since Spy Kids in 2003. They come back, nevertheless, to aid a fresh team of spy kids, Cecil and Wilson, the step kids of closet OSS agent Marissa.

The lack of time is on everyone’s heads these days. Much has been built of the value of spending quality time with family and loved ones all throughout the Spy Kids movies, but in the present film, the lesson is delivered to the audience in a literal picture, as time is objectified even further and stolen from mankind by the evil genius Time Keeper. Because of it Marissa is deployed to track down the villain, and her real image as a spy is inevitably disclosed to Cecil and Rebecca, who right away recognize that having their stepmom a spy is cool. Far more tenacious than its predecessor, this film in 4D profits greatly from its main actors and some of the thread’s witty writing.

In the end, a Spy Kids movie succeeds or flunks on the intensity of its screenplay, and Rodriguez was presumptively inspired by the growing up of his own kids when he conceptualized the theme of time as both foe and ally to people everywhere. Because after all, who has not been accountable that wasting time is better spent when you are with your loved ones?
