Review:

This is a prequel to the original movie of the same title. The Thing is about a group who reveals an extraterrestrial monster. The principal character of the movie seems to be an American lady who makes it at the research center to assist the discovery of all the Norwegians. Since this is a prequel, we know then that they would not be able to kill the monster, so the filmmakers may have something else in store for us in terms of victory by the protagonist.

The 1982 original did not have the chance to have a remake after that, and it is a wonder why the creators of this movie decided to provide the audiences with a prequel and not a sequel– or even a remake at least. The new movie revolves around the discovery of extraterrestrials through an alien ship, and then after that, there is the destruction that befalls on everybody just right before R.J MacReady was able to get there.

The research site is located at Antarctica, and the discovery of the alien spacecraft then leads to a steamy confrontation between two important individuals: Dr. Sander Halvorson, a scientist and Kate Lloyd, a graduate student. When the scientist decides to keep to his research, the student Kate teams up with a helicopter pilot– Sam Carter. Together, they pursue the sought after alien life form.

The film may be pretty good in the judgment of the audience. Since the movie has horror and action in it and a technology that can support the story, it is a sure fire success.

Review:

So a crowd of college students are steering dead set the hills of eastern United States to camp. Also trailing the same way are certified bushwhackers Dale and Tucker who are both excited to death for these two men have accomplished a lifelong ambition in buying a hillside summer house. You could call it a tumble-down shack, but they still call it their kingdom and we’re supposed to be happy for the two them.

Now Chad, the college kid who’s preppy because he has some fashion by wearing his collar up, tells he group one of those scary movie campfire tales that scares the crap out of everybody, so everyone just decides to go skinny dipping. The pack of college kids also has in their group black person Jason that is played by awesome Brandon Jay McLaren, plus another black person Naomi is played by equally good Christie Laing. Both of them were also seen in Sea Beast, where both of them played the role of a couple as well.

What’s actually really good about Tucker and Dale vs. Evil is that it is one of the most hilarious movies you could ever see. Though we know that a lot of comedy flicks have already been released this year, this movie is actually something that you would still want to see even if you have been loaded with a lot of funny stories already.

Review:

It’s the kind of a proudly preposterous B-movie that is just at range in the grounds of summertime, when we already have low expectations, and almost everybody has already had their satisfaction of awesome blockbusters and the severe films of the fall is waiting to be shown in theaters. Not that there is anything haywire with that. The movie Shark Night is not as painful, and it’s dumb fun, but unfortunately without the simpering self-awareness that other films have.

There are times that the film’s refusal to blink is absolutely impressive. See the minute Malik stumbles, red-eyed and bruised, to the body of water to take revenge on the demise of someone loved by him. The fierce sharks got one of those people, and he wants to do that same thing to the sharks. He announces with a tremulous profundity of feelings that would do Stanislavsky proud. Joining Malik are hunky nerd Nick, hot chick Beth, jackass Gordon, cutie boy Dennis, and Latina personality Maya. The lake home, which is placed on an island so distant for mobile phone signal, dwells on oracular Sara, who comes to formulate reasons for not being able to come home the former three years.

Stay put for the unanticipated post-credits scene in which the cast executes a hip-hop song that’s kinda awful, but Walls does make do a few amusing stylings when it was his turn to belt out at the mic.

Cast: Michael Parks, Melissa Leo and John Goodman

Movie Release Date: October 19, 2011

Review:

Red State is the first film of Kevin Smith’s attempt into horror. The movie tracks a few young misfits that meets up with fundamentalists and have gone to extreme measures in Middle America. Undoubtedly, a completely fair characterization of religious people will come up.

It looks like the baddies will be the religious fundamentalists that are supposed to make a change. Strangely, the movie will probably be preachy. This is quite interesting since Kevin Smith is not for being preachy. We’ll see how he will contradict his prior conviction.

The movie was financed beyond Hollywood studios, and the poster is even made by the assistant of one of the producers, so he must know something about the film instead of just some graphic designer that knows completely nothing about the film. It looks a lot similar to The Last Exorcism.

We are yet to witness a Kevin Smith film that has new taste. Yes, he has made a lot of good films. Hssowever, the theme quite stays the same to where he first started. So Red State is a bit scary and stuff, but we need to see something new to this so that Smith can redeem his name. But we can take it the other way around, and seeing that Kevin Smith has made good films, so this should be a good one too.

Maybe another criticism that this movie will get is the portrayal of Middle America, and some people may react to that. Also, a box office hit may not be achieved. Nevertheless, it’s still worth watching.

The Exorcist (1973)

Running Time: 122 min

Directed by: William Friedkin

Written By: William Peter Blatty

Cast: Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow and Linda Blair

Movie Release Date: 26 December 1973

Review:

“The Exorcist” as the name suggests, is a classic horror movie of its times. It is a movie about a teenage girl who is possessed by the devil.  Two priests come into the picture to rescue her and all three face various different horrors throughout the movie.

The movie was received very well because of its new concept added with the brilliant special effects seen for the first time. The movie overall did quite well for its time. Inspires from William Peter Blatty novel he had a major role in the filming and the making of the movie, he also played the screenplay writerand producer of the movie. In the year 2000 he re-released the movie with additional twelve minutes segment which was cut due to some reasons by the director William Friedkin in the first release. This is one of the few movies which have been released twice in the history of movie making. Chris Newman won an Oscar for his work on background sound and music in this movie. It was nominated in 10 Academy Awards categories out of which it won 2.

A definite favourite of movie buffs and a must watch if you’re a fan of horror movies.

Review:

Psycho was first released in 1960. It had become famous even before its release as it was being directed by Alfred Hitchcock, famously known as the Master of Suspense movies.  Psycho is a thriller movie, based on a psychological novel with the same name written by Robert Bloch.

From the first scene the movie manages to captivate the audience’s attention and trailers the trill to follow. Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) who is bored of her job and frustrated with life, one day, is asked to deposite a huge sum of money in the bank. Without thinking twice she flees with the money, dreaming of a better future. Driving all day she eventually tires and stops at the first motel she finds, only to realise that she’s the first visitor in weeks- revealed by the creepy keeper. The events that follow only manage to further engage the audience into the plot. The movie is fast and does not let you escape the story for a single minute.

Despite being simple the movie manages to make an imprint in the minds of the viewers with its excellent direction, story, screenplay, editing and acting, this movie delivers in every aspect. This is one such movie which is a ‘must have’ in your movie collection.

Review:

The Unborn is a horror cum thriller movie. It is based on a supernatural curse on a family which gets activated whenever twins are born. The movie has a lot of horrifying and violent scenes which are definitely scary to watch. However the movie reviews are not very flattering and fared badly at both the critics as well as the audience polls. The movie is accused of not having anythingnew  to offer to its audiences. However it did managed to earn good revenue of about seventy six million dollars against an investment of fifteen million dollars.

The movie starts with a girl who gets horrifying hallucinations and dreams about a spiritthat is trying to kill her. She gets curious and then tries to investigate why is thishappening to her. During the process she learns about the curse on her family. She tries to solve the mystery but losses her best friends in the process. The movie is not extraordinary, but is worth watching for its acting and good direction. If horror is your genre, the movie is a one-time watch.

Damien: Omen II (1978)

Damien:Omen IIGenre: Horror

Directed By: Don Taylor

Written By: Harvey Bernhard

Cast: William Holden, Lee Grant and Jonathan Scott-Taylor

Movie Release Date: 107 min

Review:

The movie is the second of the lot of The Omen series and is set after a gap of seven years after the first film. Directed by Don Taylor, the movie stars William Holden, Lee Grant and Jonathan Scott-Taylor in the leading roles. The film received mixed reviews with critics saying that the second part failed to live up to the expectation of the original and some of the scenes which were supposed to send a chill down the audiences’ spine, misfired badly and ended up being comic instead.

Damien, a 12 year old boy played by Jonathan Scott-Taylor has been orphaned and is sent to live with his uncle and aunt, Richard and Ann Thorn portrayed by William Holden and Lee Grant. Damien is the Antichrist and he announces to his cousin, Mark proudly that he is indeed the son of Satan. But his uncle and aunt refuse to believe such a possibility and every time a person lands up with an evidence to convince them otherwise, they are killed by unnatural circumstances, but Damien is never suspected of the deeds. Every attempt to expose Damien’s true nature is foiled as all the people who are aware of who Damien really is dies either by a brain aneurysm, or run over by a vehicle, or is chopped into half by an elevator cable. Even though the audience is glued till the fag end of the movie, eager to know the fate of Damien and his remaining family members, the film was successful into living up to its hype and received on 43% on RottenTomatoes. However Jerry Goldsmith’s score was critically praised as it added to the eeriness of the atmosphere.
