Review:

The Iron Lady is an autobiography film of Margaret Thatcher, British prime minister. The movie will center on her activities and conclusions contributing to the controversial 1982 Falklands War.

This movie will revolve around the complex character of Iron Lady Thatcher and her motives and conditions while she was leading England that time. Thus far they have not declared casting of who will be Ronald Reagan, but it will definitely be a good surprise. They already drafted Meryl Streep who will lead the movie, and there will be no doubt that will have all kinds of liberal hate being the Iron Lady.

The director of this stunning film is Phyllida Lloyd, and her last product in the big screen was Mamma Mia!, which also has Streep in it. This might be the reason why the cast includes Streep. Nevertheless, Mama Mia! was good and it did make a lot in the box office. So this tandem might also be a good luck charm for The Iron Lady. Though of course, The Iron Lady is a more serious film with the two of them working with each other again.

The Oscars will never miss a film by Streep, so this has quality. This film might be nominated for an Oscar. A Best Film nomination may not be sure as of yet, but a Best Actress might be in the sidelines already. And because of the controversy that surrounds the story, a Best Screenplay award could be also be predicted.

Review:

Loyalty and treachery are truly cursory undertides in the compact script by Peter Straughan in his collaboration with the great Bridget O’Connor, which entraps the spectator in a thrilling reality of bureaucratic spy world from the starting scene at the MI6 headquarters in the British capital. A little similar to M briefing Bond in a littered newspaper editor in chief’s room, the action gets cracking when English Intelligence’s number one, Control, sends out gallant agent Jim Prideaux to a life-threatening foreign mission to Hungary. He’s to contact with a renegade Russian general who recognizes a double agent that is a big fish in their own squad.

The mission to the Hungarian capital is a debacle and places a disgraceful stop to Control’s domination in the Circus, together with the vocation of his chief assistant George Smiley. Wearing his gray suit, sporting his gray hair and staggering gait, Smiley appears geared up for retirement. However, after the death of Control, a sense of responsibility pulls him back to capture the two-faced bastard that put an end to the life of his mentor and friend.

The people that are thought to be the killers of Contol are cut-out faces that are taped to Control’s secret-filled apartment. They are all Circus’s top brass– even George Smiley is included. Superb personations help differentiate the herded Circus performers, although spectators are retained on their toes on this action-packed spy film that is to hit the theaters soon.

Written By: Kevin Smith

Cast: Michael Parks, Melissa Leo and John Goodman

Movie Release Date: October 19, 2011

Review:

Red State is the first film of Kevin Smith’s attempt into horror. The movie tracks a few young misfits that meets up with fundamentalists and have gone to extreme measures in Middle America. Undoubtedly, a completely fair characterization of religious people will come up.

It looks like the baddies will be the religious fundamentalists that are supposed to make a change. Strangely, the movie will probably be preachy. This is quite interesting since Kevin Smith is not for being preachy. We’ll see how he will contradict his prior conviction.

The movie was financed beyond Hollywood studios, and the poster is even made by the assistant of one of the producers, so he must know something about the film instead of just some graphic designer that knows completely nothing about the film. It looks a lot similar to The Last Exorcism.

We are yet to witness a Kevin Smith film that has new taste. Yes, he has made a lot of good films. Hssowever, the theme quite stays the same to where he first started. So Red State is a bit scary and stuff, but we need to see something new to this so that Smith can redeem his name. But we can take it the other way around, and seeing that Kevin Smith has made good films, so this should be a good one too.

Maybe another criticism that this movie will get is the portrayal of Middle America, and some people may react to that. Also, a box office hit may not be achieved. Nevertheless, it’s still worth watching.

Dr. No (1962)

Genre: Action|Adventure|Thriller

Running Time: 110 min

Director : Terence Young

Written By: Richard Maibaum , Johanna Harwood

Movie Release Date: 8 May, 1963

Review:

Released in 1962, Dr. No has been a trendsetter for all the James Bond movies released so far. The first of its kind, this movie gave total importance to the plot. Simplicity was its trade mark as the movie had no freaky gadgets and unnecessary sci-fi or violent elements like the recent ones. It obviously had beautiful skimpily clad women adding to the glam quotient, but the movie was definitely serious business. Pierce Brosnan earmarked the character of Bond in this famous flick and Ursula Andress (Honey Ryder), Zena Marshall (Miss Taro) and Eunice Gayson (Sylvia Trench) played the eye candies in the movie.

The movie as the name suggests is about the bad guy Dr. Julius No (Joseph Wiseman) and his secret island called the Crab Key. The story denotes a connection between the murder of a British agent, a few rocket launching failures of the US and Dr. No. Bond is all set to solve the mystery behind this connection. Dr. No basically wants to control the world and keep trading with governments through his unique atomic wave research which can control the rockets and missiles that are being launched by America.  Bond discovers this and finally in his signature style beats the bad guy to death and flees with the woman.

The movie received a good response at the box office and movie lovers have given it a good 7.3 out of 10 on movie review site IMDB. Pierce Brosnan’s work has also been applauded. Hence for being a Bond series fan, this flick is a must see.

K-19 The Widowmaker (2002)

Genre: Drama|History|Thriller

Review:

The movie is based on the real life episodes that were faced by the nuclear submarine of Russia with the same name.  The submarine was also called the Widowmaker as a lot of people had lost their lives while constructing it. It includes a lot of drama, wherein a more human approach of command conquers bureaucracy.

The K-19 under the captaincy of Alexei Vostrikov (Harrison Ford), is ordered to start sailing. However the submarine does suffer a few drawbacks and needs a few tests before hitting the North Atlantic. This is when the nuclear reactor’s coolant pipe bursts and causes spilling. If this is not fixed, it would lead to an outbreak of radiation causing severe damage. After a lot of motivation, the team finally decides to fix the pipe by filling drinking water as coolant in it. After hours of attempts to fix the problem and suffering from exposure to poisonous radiation, the crew has to give up and is rescued by another Russian submarine. Liam Neeson also plays an important role of Executive officer Mikhail Polenin who brings the much needed change in the bureaucratic leader Vostrikov.

K-19 The Widowmaker has received a 6.6 out of 10 rating on a movie review site named IMDB. Though the movie had elements of suspense, adventure, thrill and a few special effects too, it was unable to conquer the box office.

The name of the movie refers to the submarine Red October and the hunt carried out by Russia and US for finding it. Released in 1990, it is full of action, thrill and depicts elements of technology. The Red October is one of its kind nuclear submarine which has a special engine which works quite silently and thus will be helpful in attacking the enemy without prior information.  The movie received a good box office opening and received 7.6 out of 10 from the viewers on the movie review site IMDB. Phone Booth is a super hit thriller movie released in the year 2002. The direction and the screenplay of the movie are very good. The movie keeps the audience interested till the end.  The movie is a psychological thriller. A famous publicist who is cheating on his wife goes to a phone booth to call his girlfriend. Here, over the phone, he is caught hostage by the villain. The bad guy knows about the publicist’s life and asks him to reveal the facts to his wife and girlfriend over the phone or else he threatens to kill him as soon as he comes out of the booth. There are many more complications shown in the movie during this process. In the end he comes out of the phone booth and the criminal shoots him. He is hurt but saved by the police present there. It is shown that the criminal was just trying to tell him the truth of life and teach him a lesson to be loyal. The movie demands a lot of concentration towards the end.
