Director: Marc Lawrence
Cast: Hugh Grant, Scott Porter, Nick Bacon, Andrew W. Blakemore

The metaphors will not stop. But who cares. This movie is adorable. Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore shine in this completely unrealistic film about a washed up pop star and a brilliant but introverted woman. Grant plays Alex Fletcher, who has accepted his current status as a “happy has-been”, and pretends to be content at playing the shows at high school reunions, apple-picking festivals, and Knott’s Berry Farm that his manager, played by Brad Garrett of Everybody Loves Raymond, finagles for him. When Alex is asked to write a song by a hot new pop star, which could give his career the jolt it so desperately needs, he frets over how he will write good lyrics, because although he is excellent with music, lyrics were always better when written by his extremely famous ex-partner. Enter cute, bumbly, neurotic, hypochondriacal plant-waterer Sophie Fisher, played by Drew Barrymore. When Alex discovers that Sophie has a flair for words, he must woo her into becoming his writing partner. Put down the bills, wash the dishes later-curl up on the couch with this film-guaranteed to make everything else melt away and put a smile on your face.
