Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010)
Director: Edgar Wright
Cast: Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Alison Pill, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman
If you’re one of the many who’re beginning to have a soft spot for Michael Cera (think Superbad, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, Juno, and Youth in Revolt) then chances are good that learning that he’ll be starring in what is essentially a movie version of a comic book will send you into spasms of happiness. Cera plays Scott Pilgrim, an unassuming kind of guy who falls hard for the pink haired chick gazing at him from across a crowded room. Turns out that the love of his life, Ramona V. Flowers (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has a couple of super villain exes hidden up her sleeves. All of whom Scott will have to defeat if he has any hope of catching her heart. Directed by Edgar Wright this film also stars Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Kieran Culkin, Brandon Routh, Alison Pill, Jason Schwartzman, Ellen Wong, Satya Bhabha, and Mark Weber. The tagline for this movie happens to be ‘An Epic of Epic Epicness’ and really, that pretty much covers it. When you’re dealing with a movie that spells out its sound effects and action sequences (i.e. PUNCH! WHAM! OW!, and etc) what else can you really call it that would do it justice?
