Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003)
Director: Jonathan Mostow
Stars: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nick Stahl and Kristanna Loken
A third in the Terminator series and the second sequel – T3, which is a well known short form for Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines is also an action packed science fiction film that was released on 2nd July, 2003 by WarnerBros Pictures in the United States. This sequel was directed by Jonathan Mostow and not James Cameron, and had Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nick Stahl, Kristanna Loken and Claire Danes acting in the film.
The story follows Skynet’s failure to kill Tech-Com resistance founder John and his mother Sarah Connors. Skynet dispatches a more advanced assassin or a Terminator labeled T-X in a mission to kill Tech-Com Resistance officials because the whereabouts of the leader was not known. But as the plot unfolds, T-X meets the leader of the Resistance.
The film received mixed criticism. James Cameron was in BBC as observing that this sequel was great. The film also garnered a good rating of 70% from Rotten Tomatoes. On the flip side, A.O. Scott in The New York Times observed that Terminator 3 was essentially a B movie, content to be loud, dumb and obvious.
It was after 12 long years that this sequel was released to earn only $433 million worldwide, which was only a sixth of that grossed by Terminator 2. Interestingly, the movie could not even get any nominations, let alone win awards.
