The Kids are All Right (2010)
Director: Lisa Cholodenko
Cast: Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Mia Wasikowska, Josh Hutcherson
Director and writer Lisa Cholodenko teams up with writer Stuart Blumberg to create a comedy that has an interesting family twist. Though it may follow the generic lines of clueless father reunited with his kids (something we see a lot in comedies), this movie takes things in a slightly different direction. Instead of the children being the product of an abandoned parental figure, or even the result of some torrid affair that the father (for whatever reason) knew nothing about, these kids (Nic and Jules) are the offspring of artificial insemination. Now Nic and Jules (played by Annette Bening and Julianne Moore) want their birth father to be a part of their lives, no matter how complicated his presence may make things. Starring Mark Ruffalo as Paul, Mia Wasikowska as Joni, Josh Hutcherson as Laser, and Yaya DaCosta as Tanya The Kids are All Right covers everything from lesbians to motorcycles, which is pretty impressive in and of itself.![]()
