The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Director: Marcus Nispel
Cast: Jessica Biel, Jonathan Tucker, Erica Leerhsen, Mike Vogel, Eric Balfour, David Dorfman
I didn’t WANT to watch this movie. I HAD to watch this movie. I mean, look at the title? It’s the perfect temptation for a horror movie masochist like myself to gorge on scenes much too graphic for my psyche.
Directed by Marcus Nispel, this remake of the 1974 version was a particular favorite of mine because it stared Jessica Biel. Along with Jessica we have Eric Balfour, Jonathan Tucker, Mike Vogel, and Erica Leerhsen. Together the five of them play college students trying to escape from the clutches of a bloodthirsty family after they went looking for help when a hitchhiker they picked up killed herself.
In it’s own right the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a pretty god horror flick. However, as a remake it was a bit lacking. Inspired by the serial killer Ed Gein, the original film had less blood and guts and more of a creepy documentary feel to it. Since this film went more towards shock value it failed to deliver a more frightening version of the classic, but managed to be unique in its own way.
